80 / 20

How you get paid on LightUp

For guides and creators: how much you receive, when and how, with no fine print.

The split

80 %

For you

20 %

For LightUp

Of what arrives after the payment provider's fee, you receive 80% and LightUp 20%. It's the same for guided tours, paid gems and tips.

What LightUp gives you for that 20 %

  • People find you: your tours and gems appear on the map, on each city's page and on Google, on the web and in the iPhone and Android app.
  • The app walks travellers to the place and the story plays by itself when they arrive.
  • Bookings and payments handled: days and times to book, email notifications, payment by card or Mercado Pago, and refunds if something goes wrong.
  • If the traveller doesn't show up at the time of the tour, you still get paid.
  • No fees or fixed costs: publishing is free and LightUp only earns when you earn.

An example

A €35 tour paid with a European card (approximate: Stripe's fee depends on the card).

Traveller pays€35.00
Stripe fee (1.5% + €0.25)− €0.78
Reaches LightUp€34.22
You receive (80%)€27.38
LightUp (20%)€6.84

Payment provider fees

stripe

Stripe: depends on the card. With European cards, about 1.5% + €0.25; with cards from outside Europe, more.

Mercado Pago

Mercado Pago Colombia: 3.29% + COP 952, plus VAT on that fee.

Gems and tips bought inside the iPhone app: Apple takes its 15% first and the 80/20 split applies to the rest.

When you get paid

Tours: one hour after the tour ends, if the traveller hasn't reported that you didn't show up.

Gems and tips: right away, if your payout account is connected. If it isn't yet, it's kept and paid to you in full as soon as you connect it.

In Colombia: to your Mercado Pago account.

Connect your payout account

In Settings you connect your account to receive payments: Stripe or, in Colombia, Mercado Pago.
